If you have been reading my posts, I always say that becoming a mother is one of the most transformative experiences a woman can go through. So, I just arranged this list of advice for new moms.

We do know that motherhood is a journey filled with joy, love, challenges, and learning. But it’s also messy and sometimes we just need another voice to tell us what to do.

From the moment you find out you’re expecting, to holding your precious bundle of joy in your arms, every step along the way is a new adventure.

For new moms embarking on this beautiful journey, there are plenty of things to know and consider. In this guide, we’ll explore some essential advice and insights to help navigate the early stages of motherhood.

#1 Embrace Self-Care

As a new mom, it’s easy to prioritize your baby’s needs above your own. While taking care of your little one is crucial, don’t forget to take care of yourself too. Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s necessary for your well-being and ability to care for your baby effectively. Find moments to rest, nourish your body with healthy foods, and engage in activities that bring you joy.

#2 Trust Your Instincts

You’ll receive plenty of advice from well-meaning friends, family, and even strangers. While some of it may be helpful, remember that every baby is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. Trust your instincts as a mother; who else knows your baby best? Listen to your intuition and do what feels right for you and your little one.

#3 Seek Support

Motherhood will feel overwhelming at times, and it’s okay to ask for help. You can lean on your partner, seek other advice from fellow moms, or join a support group. But having a strong support system can make a world of difference.

Always surround yourself with people who uplift and encourage you on your journey.

#4 Be Patient with Yourself

Adjusting to being a mom takes time, and it’s okay to make mistakes along the way. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to be the perfect mom. Give yourself grace and allow room for growth. Remember that you’re doing the best you can, and that’s more than enough.

#5 Prioritize Sleep

Sleep deprivation is a common challenge for all of us (moms), but getting enough rest is essential for your physical and mental well-being. Try to have high-quality sleep at night at least for the few hours your baby is sleeping too (this essential oil helps me a lot). Enlist the help of your partner or family members to share nighttime duties. Creating a bedtime routine for your baby can also help establish healthy sleep patterns.

#6 Take Care of Your Mental Health

The postpartum period can bring about a range of emotions, from overwhelming joy to feelings of sadness or anxiety. It’s important to prioritize your mental health during this time. Don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare provider if you think you’re struggling with postpartum depression or anxiety. There is support available, and you don’t have to go through it alone.

#7 Enjoy the Moments

This is when everybody tells you “How fast they grow, right?” We know the early days of motherhood are challenging, but they also pass by so fast. Take the time to cherish the precious moments with your baby, from their first smile to their first steps. Be present and savor every milestone, knowing that these moments are fleeting.

#8 Find Balance

Having a mom-life balance, such as work or hobbies, can be tricky, but it’s important to find a balance that works for you. Remember that it’s okay to prioritize your own needs and interests alongside your responsibilities as a mom. Finding time for self-care and pursuing your passions will ultimately make you a happier and more fulfilled mom.

#9 Stay Organized

With a new human at home, life is chaotic at times. Staying organized can help alleviate some of the stress. Create a schedule or routine for yourself and your baby and use tools like calendars or apps to keep track of appointments, feedings, and diaper changes. Having a system in place can help you feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

My system might be funny, but I have a little whiteboard on my fridge and it helps a lot.

#10 Celebrate Your Strength

Having a baby at home will test your strength, resilience, and of course your patience in ways you never imagined. Take pride in all that you’ve accomplished and overcome as a new mom. You are stronger than you know, and you’re doing an incredible job.

Remember this: babies create superheroes!

#11 Accept Help

Don’t be afraid to accept help from others, whether it’s from your partner, family members, or friends. You don’t have to do it all alone. Allow others to lend a hand with household chores, cooking meals, or watching the baby while you take a much-needed break. Asking for help doesn’t make you weak; it makes you human.

#12 Stay Flexible

Being a parent comes with a lot of surprises, and things don’t always go according to plan. Learn to be flexible and go with the flow. Your baby may not adhere to a strict schedule, and that’s okay. Embrace it and learn to adapt to whatever comes your way.

#13 Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to other moms, especially with TikTok and Instagram where everyone seems to have it all together. Remember that what you see online is often just a curated snapshot of someone else’s life. Focus on your own journey and celebrate your unique strengths and accomplishments as a mom (sorry, superhero).

#14 Take Time for Your Relationship

Parenthood can put a strain on even the strongest relationships. Make it a priority to nurture your relationship with your partner amidst this chaos. Set aside time for date nights or quiet moments together to reconnect and strengthen your bond as a couple.

#15 Practice Patience, Patience, and more Patience

Parenthood requires a lot of patience (I just told you 3 times), both with your baby and with yourself. There will be challenges and setbacks along the way but try to approach them with grace and understanding. Remember that you’re learning and growing together with your baby, and each day brings new opportunities for growth and discovery.

Closing Thoughts

In conclusion, the journey of motherhood is filled with ups and downs, but it’s also one of the most rewarding experiences life has to offer. As a new mom, remember to prioritize self-care, trust your instincts, seek support, and be patient with yourself. Embrace the joys and challenges that come your way, knowing that you are capable, resilient, and deeply loved. You’ve got this, mama! Oh again, superhero!
